Flow improver is an acrylic additive that reduces surface tension and improves paint flow through the airbrush without significantly diluting the binder or pigment concentration. Think of it as the “smart” alternative to just adding water.
What it does:
- Reduces tip dry (paint drying on the needle tip)
- Improves flow through fine nozzles
- Extends working time slightly
- Maintains paint body better than plain water
How to use: Add 1–3 drops directly to the paint cup per 5–10 drops of paint. You can also pre-mix flow improver into your paint at the ratio recommended on the bottle (typically 1:10 to 1:20).
Recommended brands: Vallejo Airbrush Flow Improver, Liquitex Flow Aid, Golden Airbrush Medium.
Don’t overdo it: Too much flow improver can cause paint to run on the surface and reduce adhesion. Start with 1–2 drops and adjust.
